Success

Wonder what we've been doing all week? Anna and I have spent a lot of time in the bathroom the last few days. No, we've not been ill. We had a 3-day long potty party. It was rough going at times, but we've achieved a great deal of success and have even ventured out of the house with the only diapers along as spares if necessary. We've got more work to do on this, but we are very proud of our little girl for doing so well. As a reward, she got to choose a special thing from the toy store. We'd been promising her a new doll if she went on the potty, but she chose a Slinky instead! (Her cousin Jenny has a slinky and Anna thought that was really cool! We're not too sad about it because a slinky costs about $3!)

Even though Anna woke up this morning saying she wanted to get rid of her big-girl bed and wanted to have her crib back, she's been doing very well with her new bed. She's been very comfortable in it and has had no problems sleeping and staying in it when she's supposed to (the exception being at nap times, which are almost a thing of the past anyway). Our little girl is sure growing up! We've conquered 2 of the big 3 growing-up milestones in a short amount of time. The third--giving up the pacifier--is the one we figure will be the biggest challenge. I'm hoping to do that before her 3rd birthday, but we'll see. This week was traumatic, so we'll not try to tackle it any time soon.

A New Bed

Last night was Anna's last night in her crib. She had learned how to climb out by herself awhile ago. We lowered the side rail to make it easier and safer for her. Her new bed was delivered this afternoon.
We'd been talking about a big girl bed for a few days and she was really excited about it. She didn't deal too well with taking the crib out of her room, though. It was nap time, she likes to play in her crib--we're not really sure why the meltdown occurred, but we got over it.

She picked out a pink heart pillow for her new bed. Matt and I got a much needed new mattress, so hopefully everyone sleeps really well tonight!

Christmas Music

Anna has learned a few new Christmas songs this season. She's listened to many more at home and in the car. Last night, she and Matt were singing part of "Jingle Bells" and started getting goofy. The song started going something like this:

Matt: "Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open computer."
Anna: "No. Oh, what it is to ride in a one-horse open couch."
Matt: "No. Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open teddy bear."
Anna: "No. Oh, what it is to ride in a one-horse open ballerina."
Matt: "No. Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open peanut butter sandwich."
Anna: "No. Oh, what it is to ride in a one-horse open boots."
It was too cute! (She always left out the word fun.)

Today was a new one. I thought she was saying "virgin Mary" only I heard, "birgin Mary". I corrected her and started singing "the Virgin Mary had a baby boy" song and she said, "No, the birds and Mary"! Oh well, at least I have a little more time before I need to explain to her what virgin means.

Our Wee Bowler

Anna has been watching a lot of people play Wii games lately and wanted to get in on the fun. She thinks she's got the bowling thing down and requested to play it. Since she's not quite coordinated enough to handle the remote correctly, we let her go through the motions.


And then one of us stands behind her to actually "bowl". She thinks it's great! She's our wee Wii bowler.
